Topic

Topic Our themes this term are’ Mini beasts and Growing’ and ‘Under the Sea’. We will be learning about the different mini beasts and their habitats. We will be planting more bulbs in the garden and talking about what plants need to grow. In under the sea we will be learning about the animals that live in the sea .To help your child at home, please talk about these topics and have a look at some non-fiction books or information on the I pads .

Mathematics

We will be learning to recite numbers in order up to 20 and recognize the numbers from 1 to 20.We will be comparing two groups of objects and saying when they have the same number. We will be learning about 2D and 3D shapes and how to describe them. Please help your child at home to count everyday objects and recognize their numbers to 20.Please practice writing the numbers from 0 to 10.

Communication & Language

We will be using language to connect our ideas and talk about what is happening now and what might happen next. We will be using full sentences in order to talk about our weekends and what we are doing in the classroom. We will also be talking about what happens in the stories e.g. who are the characters and what do they do in the story. We will be encouraging the children to use question words when they are speaking e.g. who, what, where and why. Please encourage your child to speak as much as possible at home.

Physical Development

We will be working on pencil control to enable the children to form some of their letters correctly and encouraging the children to write their names (thumb and two fingers near the tip of the pencil with a firm grip).We will also be writing numbers from 0 to 10.We will be using scissors and tweezers to help with their fine motor control. In the garden we will be working on their gross motor skills e.g. to throw and catch a ball, to kick a ball with control.

Phonics

We will be continuing to learn our initial letter sounds and letter names starting with the letter o and then c k e u r h b f l. Please ask them to tell you the letter sound and name and show you the action for each sound. Have a look in your home and outside area for objects/words that start with these sounds. Play ‘I Spy .’

Literacy

We will be reading and talking about lots of stories with the children using the words character and setting. We will be asking them to talk about the beginning, middle and end of the story. We will be asking questions about the stories and encouraging the children to answer in full sentences. Please continue reading and talking about stories at home with them. You can do this in your home language too.

Things to remember

A PE bag with your child’s name clearly marked on the front. A full set of clothing including shoes, with their name in each item – just in case! Up to date information e.g. phone numbers given to the office If your child is ill and cannot attend school for any reason, please phone in – we worry!
